Some people train for marathons. Others climb mountains. Us? We bought a $1500 shitbox and decided the smartest thing to do was point it from Bendigo to the start line in Port Augusta to Townsville and hope it survives over 4000k’s back to Bendigo again!
Are we crazy? Absolutely and we aren’t getting any younger.
But this isn’t just about dodgy air-conditioning, questionable mechanical decisions, and wondering what that new rattle means. It’s about joining hundreds of equally unhinged legends in the Autumn 2027 Shitbox Rally to raise much-needed funds for cancer research.
Every kilometre (over 4000 of them!) is a gamble. Every morning is a miracle if the old girl starts. Every breakdown becomes another story we’ll laugh about over a cold drink at the end of the day. We’ll battle 7 days of dust, dirt, heat, and roads that were probably never designed for cars like ours—but we’ll do it with smiles on our faces and plenty of questionable jokes.
Cancer affects far too many families, and if driving a complete heap across Australia helps raise money to fight it, then count us in.
So here’s to the breakdowns, the belly laughs, the roadside repairs, the unforgettable memories, and proving that even the shittest car can do something extraordinary.
Starting from Bendigo in Victoria to the start line in Port Augusta to Townsville and back to Bendigo, we’re sending it—for a bloody good cause. Wish us luck… we’re probably going to need it and that’s just to get to the starting line!!
Big Wigs are driving a $1,500 car from Port Augusta to Townsville to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Donate NowEvery rally. Every dollar.
Directly to Cancer Council.
Box Rallies is the largest funder of cancer research in Australia — outside of the government. Every dollar supports Cancer Council.
