🚙💨 Introducing Team Gerry Can!
We’re thrilled (and mildly terrified) to announce we’re taking on Shitbox Rally 2027 - Autumn! Behind the wheel of our $1,500-or-less shitbox — a slightly worse-for-wear 2008 Mazda 3 we’ve lovingly (and unimaginatively) named Gerry — we’ll be tackling 7 days and one seriously long stretch of dirt, dust and questionable roadside coffee from Port Augusta to Townsville.
But this isn’t just a road trip. We’re doing it for the people we love who’ve faced cancer head-on: Geg, Bruce, Cheryl, Bill, Ned, Terry and so many more impacted by cancer. This one’s for you — every kilometre, every breakdown, every “are we there yet” is in your honour. 💛
Every team on this rally has to raise a minimum of $5,000, with every single dollar going straight to Cancer Council to fund life-saving research. We’re pulling out all the stops (and possibly a few engine parts) to get there, and we can’t do it without you.
💰All donations welcome - and here’s the fun part: donate $100 or more and we’ll write your chosen tribute, shoutout, or message onto Gerry himself — so by the time we roll into Townsville, our shitbox will be wearing the names and messages of everyone who backed us. Get in early, Gerry’s got limited panel space and a lot of love to carry.
Buckle up, follow along (📸 Insta: @Gerry.Can_Shitbox), and help us get Gerry (and his questionable roadworthy certificate) all the way to Townsville. 💛
Gerry Can are driving a $1,500 car from Port Augusta to Townsville to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Donate NowEvery rally. Every dollar.
Directly to Cancer Council.
Box Rallies is the largest funder of cancer research in Australia — outside of the government. Every dollar supports Cancer Council.
