We're thrilled to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2027 - Autumn! The rally departs Port Augusta, South Australia on 24 April 2027 and finishes in Townsville, Queensland on 30 April 2027. The rally runs over seven consecutive days, covering approximately 3,500 to 4,000 kilometres of Australia's most challenging roads—including unsealed outback tracks, single-lane highways, and roads that may be affected by weather and flooding. This is not a comfortable road trip; it is a genuine test of endurance, mechanical resourcefulness, and determination.
Team Konkey Donk consists of Aaron and Yvette. We both have personal motivations to support cancer research - We have (too much) lived experience of loved ones battling cancer through a husband, a mother, a mother-in-law, coworkers, and friends.
This will be Aaron's second Shitbox Rally and brings enthusiastic if not effective technical capability to the team. His skill level is best described "doesn't always introduce new problems when trying to fix things".
Yvette is facing her first rally with a mix of blind confidence (ignorance IS bliss) and trepidation - The rally will be her opportunity to discover her as yet undeveloped practical, mechanical abilities. Yvette brings balance to the team as her effortless calm and refinement will bring a much needed balance to Aaron's temper and gauche behaviour.
Konkey Donk are driving a $1,500 car from Port Augusta to Townsville to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
