Meet the Surf Goats
Terry and Paul, better known as the Surf Goats, are gearing up for the adventure of a lifetime in the 2027 Autumn Shitbox Rally, taking on the epic journey from Port Augusta to Townsville in their trusty (and slightly questionable) old Mazda 3.
United by a love of the sea, good music, and great company, the Surf Goats are trading ocean breezes for red dirt, long roads, and whatever challenges Australia throws their way. Their Mazda may not be the obvious choice for crossing the country, but that's exactly what the Shitbox Rally is all about: proving that determination, teamwork, and a sense of humour can take you a long way.
While they're looking forward to the stunning landscapes, roadside yarns, and unforgettable memories, the real reason they're taking part is to raise vital funds for cancer research. Like so many Australians, they've seen the impact cancer can have on families and communities, and they're proud to be doing their part to help make a difference.
So, whether they're singing along to their favourite tunes, fixing a mechanical hiccup on the side of a dusty track, or chasing the next horizon, Terry and Paul are ready to embrace every kilometre of the adventure.
Follow the Surf Goats as they take their old Mazda 3 from Port Augusta to Townsville, raising funds, creating memories, and proving that the best adventures start with a great cause and a slightly ridiculous car. 🚗🐐🌊🎸
Surf Goats are driving a $1,500 car from Port Augusta to Townsville to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Donate NowEvery rally. Every dollar.
Directly to Cancer Council.
Box Rallies is the largest funder of cancer research in Australia — outside of the government. Every dollar supports Cancer Council.
