*Team Chooko – Driving for Mum*
Every day in Australia, hundreds of families hear the words no one ever wants to hear: “You have cancer.” Around 170,000 Australians are diagnosed with cancer each year, and almost every one of us knows someone whose life has been changed by this disease.
For us, that person was our beautiful mum.
In May 2026, we lost Mum after her courageous battle with cancer. To everyone who knew her, she was simply “Chooko.” She was kind, funny, fiercely caring and the heart of our family. Losing her has left a space that can never be filled.
So, in her honour, we’ve decided to do something a little crazy.
In April 2027, we’ll be driving our 25-year-old family sedan across some of Australia’s toughest roads in the Shitbox Rally, travelling from Port Augusta to Townsville. It’s a journey of more than 4,000 kilometres in a car that’s worth less than the tyres on most new cars.
But this isn’t about the car.
It’s about remembering Mum. It’s about celebrating her life. And it’s about helping create a future where fewer families have to experience the heartbreak that ours has.
Every team taking part in the Shitbox Rally must raise at least $5,000 for the Cancer Council, with every dollar donated going directly to cancer research. Not a cent goes towards our rally costs—it all helps fund the research that gives families hope for better treatments and, one day, a cure.
If you’d like to support cancer research, we’d be incredibly grateful - every donation brings us one step closer to making a difference.
Thank you for supporting Team Chooko and for helping us honour Mum’s memory in the best way we know how.
This one’s for you, Chooko. ❤️
Businesses who’d like to become a sponsor of our team will receive a special branding package and promotional messaging throughout the rally. Contact us for details.
Team Chooko are driving a $1,500 car from Port Augusta to Townsville to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Donate NowEvery rally. Every dollar.
Directly to Cancer Council.
Box Rallies is the largest funder of cancer research in Australia — outside of the government. Every dollar supports Cancer Council.
