Mike Chatt and Robbie Tutt are lining up for another Shitbox Rally, this time the Autumn 2027 rally. We'll be pointing our new shitbox, another Commodore Holden, north from Port Augusta to Townsville: seven days and roughly 3,500 km, much of it on outback dirt roads in late April 2027.
The rules are simple. Two mates, a two-wheel-drive car worth less than $1,500, and some of the toughest roads in Australia. It's not a race, it's a challenge, and the real point of it all is the fundraising. Every team has to raise at least $5,000 for Cancer Council to make the start line, but we're aiming much higher, with a target of $14,000 to beat our total from 2024.
Since the first rally in 2010, Shitbox Rally has raised more than $68 million for cancer research, making it one of Australia's biggest community fundraisers. Almost everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, including ourselves, and we're proud to be doing our bit.
Driving 3,500 km in a $1,500 car is the easy part. Raising the money is the hard part, so every donation, big or small, makes a real difference. Thank you!

Two Poms and a bomb are driving a $1,500 car from Port Augusta to Townsville to raise money for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
